I’m happy to announce that I’ve taken a few fledgling steps towards being a ‘real artist’ (not just pretending to be one on TV). I decided a couple of days ago to throw out the possibility of doing commissions on my FB page. And within a matter of minutes, I had already gotten paid to do one commission, and had quite a few others lined up. I finished my first commission right away, and will be mailing that off shortly. Last night I finished my 2nd one, for Drew from Twin Suns Comic Books & Gaming Center and dropped that off today.

Here's the finished piece I did for him.

The point of all this… I’m trying to exercise my ‘inking’ muscles… Inking is something I know I need to practice (I’m ok, but I could be better!) I’m also trying to do these traditionally… i.e. with pencil, pen and paper. Not that I don’t enjoy digitally inking (I do!), but I have sorta lost track of my traditional inking style. My pens have been languishing in my pen case for the better part of the last 2 years, as I have fully explored the digital side of things. I guess I surprised myself with the Fett piece I did last week. That was the first serious piece that I had inked on paper in a long while. And it didn’t turn out terrible… in fact, I kinda like how it turned out.
Don’t take this the wrong way, I am by no means turning my back on my Cintiq. I love that expensive hunk of WACOMey goodness! I’m just entertaining the notion that as I exercise one set of skills, the other one benefits as well. Something that became apparent as I was working on the commission I finished last night. Being a better ‘traditional’ inker, makes me a better ‘digital’ inker.
So… without further ado… I would like to officially open up the door, and offer to you, my readers, the chance to get an Original piece of ART, sketched, inked… and signed by me!
Here’s what I’m thinking:
** $25 gets you a Penciled and Inked (Black & White) 8 x 11” of a ¾ view of a character of your choosing (3/4 view would be something akin to what I did with the Fett picture – from the knee’s up. Also, if it’s someone I’m not familiar with, I’ll have to do some research and take a look – my geek tendrils extend deep, but some of the ‘new-fangled’ Pokemon / Yu-Gi-Oh generation stuff eludes me.)
** $50 gets you a Penciled, Inked (Black & White) 11x17” full body shot (head to toe) of a character of your choosing.
** Add $20 for digital coloring, and I will include the original sheet of pencils, inks, and a signed color print on glossy stock – with a handwritten “Thank You” card from me! Cuz’ that’s how I roll!
I have one more commission that I’m starting tonight… Not to be outdone... Josh (Drew's twin brother... "Twin" Suns... get it!) has ordered one from me as well... And I have a few other interested parties in the works… so get your ‘orders’ in quick and reserve your spot today!!!
You can send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions… or hit me up on my new Facebook Fan Page - http://www.facebook.com/ipoopart (Speaking of... If you haven’t ‘liked’ it yet… go do that NOW!!!
